finding appropriate supplies
There are different sources for respiratory hazards that a public health employee may encounter, and the risk to workers varies according to their job responsibilities, geographic environment, and probability (or risk) of exposure. Additionally, varying facial structures and physical characteristics among employees may result in the need to purchase multiple respirator models. Here is a complete list of NIOSH-Approved N95 Particulate Filtering Facepiece Respirators. Please note that surgical masks are not respirators. Click here to learn more about the important differences between these two types of PPE.
N95 respirators |

Qualitative Fit Test Kits |
The qualitative fit testing method is the most widely used method for respirator fit testing. This method is acceptable to OSHA standards and can be performed with minimal training and expense. The most common subtypes are: isoamyl acetate (fruit-like aroma), saccharin (a sweet-tasting agent), irritant smoke (stannic chloride) and Denatonium Benzoate (also known as Bitrex). Bitrex leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth of fit test subjects whose masks do not fit properly.
