DPH face-to-face training opportunities in 2016
Respiratory Protection Task Force members and other district personnel will have the opportunity to participate in face-to-face didactic sessions to ensure that they are comfortable with equipment and know how to properly administer employee fit-testing.

Respiratory Protection Course
Course Details: 90 minutes, self-paced, 1.5 CNE available.
The Respiratory Protection Webkit is ideal for the occupational and environmental health professional who wants to learn more about OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard and the role of the Occupational Health Nurse as the Respiratory Protection Program Administrator. The training includes numerous resources for the OHN which are provided here in the Webkit.
Additionally, the AAOHN published an Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on respiratory protection education and training for nurses. You can access the book for free here.
Respiratory Protection FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS Training

Non-dph face-to-face courses
The 2014 Ebola outbreak underlined the pivotal role that government agencies can play in either containing or amplifying an infectious disease threat in a community. Because infection prevention and control practices must be implemented properly for every person, in every setting, Emergency Management agencies are expanded a range of course offerings related to respiratory protection. As we hear about these non-DPH sponsored opportunities, we'll post updates to this section.
FEMA Respiratory Protection: Program Development and Administration (RP)
Target Audience/Disciplines: Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service, Governmental Administrative, Hazardous Materials, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, Public Health, Public Safety Communications, and Public Works.
Overview: The Respiratory Protection: Program Development and Administration three-day course provides essential information and the skills required to develop, implement, administer, and properly sustain a respiratory protection program that fully complies with the laws and regulations regarding emergency response actions. |
Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:
- Develop a Respiratory Protection Program.
- Implement all aspects of a respiratory protection program to include training, evaluation, and record-keeping requirements.
- Determine applicability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection to the first responder at the awareness, operation, and technician levels.
- Employ multiple technologies to conduct qualitative and quantitative fit testing in accordance with § 1910.134.
- Conduct a Respiratory Protection Program exercise at the toxic agent Chemical, Ordnance, Biological, and Radiological Training Facility (COBRATF).
